- They look into your intake form and see who, in their organization, fits best with what’s happening
- Interns are okay to talk with, but clinical supervisors take on the more intense cases (usually medical diagnoses involved)
- Working together with other professionals helps us make sure we’re not missing anything with our clients. We’re lifelong learners!
What should you say (or not say) when looking for a therapist?
- No generic messages! Provide some details so we can help right off the bat.
- Do some screening – make sure this therapist specializes in what you’re looking for
- Providing more detail in your initial communications will differentiate you from the masses.
How to make the strongest connection?
- Be clear in what you’re looking for in therapy
- Allow your therapist to ask you questions, too!
- Leave the initial meeting with a genuine understanding of each other
